Your own Stories
Instagram already archives everything you post. Profile → menu → Your activity → Archive lets you download originals directly.
Stories are login-gated. Here is what genuinely works — and what does not.
Instagram requires an authenticated session to read Stories. Any site claiming anonymous Story downloads is either asking for your login, using rented accounts, or quietly failing. We will not ask for your password, so paste a Story link only if you have configured your own session on your own installation.
This page is deliberately honest, because the Story category is full of sites that over-promise. Feed posts and Reels are public objects with a stable URL, so they can be resolved without credentials. Stories are not: Instagram serves them only to a logged-in session, and it records who viewed them. That is why an anonymous Story downloader cannot work the way the marketing claims.
If it is yours, the archive route below is faster and lossless.
Most creators will send you the original file if you ask.
No legitimate tool needs your Instagram credentials. Entering them hands over your whole account.
If the person re-shares a Story to their feed, that post becomes public and our main downloader handles it.

Settings → Accounts Centre → Your information → Download your information gives you a complete archive including Stories.
For a Story you are entitled to keep, the built-in recorder on iOS and Android is the simplest route, and the account owner sees you as a normal viewer.
This project supports an IG_SESSIONID setting for your own deployment and your own account, with the account-safety trade-offs that implies.
Instagram does not expose Stories to unauthenticated requests. A tool that appears to do it is signed in as somebody — often a pool of accounts, sometimes yours if you handed over a password. We will not build on either.
If a Story was fetched through any signed-in session, that session appears in the viewer list. Screen recording does not add a separate notification, but you still show up as a viewer.
Use Instagram’s own archive or the Download your information export. Both give you the original file with no third party involved.
